Book Twenty Three : The One by Kiera Cass
THIS IS BOOK THREE IN A TRILOGY SO DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ BOOK ONE - The Selection AND BOOK TWO - The Elite
This time we were in the Great Room enduring another etiquette lesson when bricks came flying through the window. Elise immediately hit the ground and started crawling for the side door, whimpering as she went. Celeste let out a high-pitched scream and bolted toward the back of the room, barely escaping a shower of glass. Kriss grabbed my arm, pulling me, and I broke into a run alongside her as we made our way to the exit.
The Selection changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. And now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.
America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.
My Thoughts : I have very mixed feelings about this book, and trilogy, so want to start with something positive. Kiera Cass truly has the most stunning book covers EVER!!!
Now moving on from there. I took me the better part of an afternoon to read The One; however, I was extremely frustrated with parts of the book. I felt like book one, book two, and most of book three could have been combined into one book. I felt like I was just reading the same thing over and over : America loves Maxon but she also loves Aspen, America keeps getting in trouble with the King, the rebels throw a couple bricks again. It felt very repetitive.
The last ten chapters of book three is where things really start to pick up. I was loving the twists and turns. I loved not knowing where the story was going. Then just like that the book was over. Wait, Why? I didn't have time to process everything before it was done. Why wasn't the last ten chapters a separate book? Kiera Cass could have added so much more detail. I wanted more from those last ten chapters. . . a lot more.

I don't want this to be a really negative review, because I know a lot of people really loves this trilogy. I think if you enjoy reading a good love triangle then this is your book. If you aren't heavily invested in the dystopian side of the book then you will probably like this book. These are very fast books to read and you do get sucked into the story very quickly. I think, mainly, because every girl wants a chance at becoming a princess.
I would recommend this book for teenage girls. I think junior high and high school girls will love it.
don't forget to check out book one and two in the trilogy
