Book Four and Five : Under the Never Sky and Through the Ever Night
by Veronica Rossi
"In the sounds of the night Aria heard footsteps, far off and faint, but she recognized them instantly. She shoot into the darkness, letting her ears guide her. She followed the crunch of his feet on stones and small twigs, coming faster, louder, as his walk became a jog, then a run. She chased the sounds until all she heard was his heartbeat and then his breath and his voice, right by her ear, telling her, in tones as warm as fire, exactly the words she wanted to hear."
Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.
Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.
If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.
My Thoughts : These books follow Aria, a girl who lives in virtual reality, and Peregrine, a hunter from a small colony. Aria's mother is missing and soon after she is banished from her world (the pod.) Peregrine's nephew was kidnapped by the same pod Aria is banished from and will do anything to get him back. Aria and Peregrine join together to try to put the pieces together. I know it sounds really confusing and trust me it was at first. Aria and Peregrine's backgrounds are polar opposites so it required a lot of information. I find myself still confused about some things.
Under the Never Sky, took me a really long time to get into. I'm not really sure why, but I think it had to do with the writing style. I found it to be really frustrating. Instead of it being wrote from Aria and Peregrine's perspective, it was wrote as if I was being told their story from someone else (third person.) I found it extremely hard to truly connect with the characters because of it. I would have found the story more gripping if Aria and Peregrine were telling the story. These books did contain a couple twists and turns that helped keep me interested.
I found the relationship between Aria and Peregrine really beautiful. I think this love story was really well written and I found myself getting lost in it. I also found Roar, Peregrine's best friend to be one of my favourite characters in the two books.
I found book two to be a million times better than book one. I think because the story was set and I could just go straight into it. It had me stuck on the couch till I finished reading. Their were interesting alliances formed, a heartbreaking scene, and some amazing character growth.
Overall I did enjoy both these books and rated them both four out of five stars.
If you enjoy dystopian books then definitely go ahead and pick up this trilogy.
I hope this review made sense : )
